Alana Stevenson Biography
Alana Linsay Stevenson, M.S. is a professional animal behavior specialist. She specializes in helping people resolve dog and cat behavioral problems, including fearful and aggressive behaviors, in a humane and positive way. She promotes a gentle, science-based approach to cat and dog training and resolving feline and canine behavioral problems. Alana Stevenson has been teaching clients how to implement behavior modification without the use of aversives such as shock, pinch, or choke collars, leash corrections, shake cans, squirt bottles, or physical force and prompting since 2003.
Alana Stevenson has a Master of Science in Biology Education and a bachelor’s degree in Biology. She is certified by the Association of Animal Behavior Professionals, and is certified in Low Stress Handling for Dogs and Cats. Alana is the author of two books on positive dog training: The Right Way the First Time: Teaching Your Dog Kindly & Humanely (2007) and Training Your Dog the Humane Way: Simple Teaching Tips for Resolving Problem Behaviors and Raising a Happy Dog (2011). She is a certified Fear-Free Professional and is on the Cat-Friendly Practice Advisory Council for the American Association of Feline Practitioners. She is also certified in Small animal Massage Therapy from the Bancroft School of Massage Therapy and incorporates mindful and gentle touch and handling when working with dogs and cats.
In addition to her two dog training books, Alana Stevenson created Feline Fundamentals webinars: Humane Handling Basics and Feline Behavior, Body-Language and Communication, as well as standard operating procedures for The Use of Dog Harnesses and Humane Feline-Handling for animal shelters.
