Dog Training Classes
Manners
Training methods are built on trust and cooperation. There is no leash-jerking or yanking, choke or pinch collars.
Puppy Manners
(Dogs under 4 months old)
Puppies learn behaviors on cue, such as attention, sit, down, coming when called, stay and to give and drop items. Normal behaviors such as hyperactivity, jumping, chewing, housetraining, and play-biting will be discussed. Structured off-leash play is part of the curriculum.
Your puppy must have received his or her second Distemper vaccination to participate. Proof of vaccinations must be shown the first day of class. Do not bring your puppy to the first class — it is for people only.
Basic Manners
(Dogs over 3 months old)
Basic Manners is a reward-oriented class that teaches your dog behaviors on cue, such as attention, sit, down, coming when called, wait, stay, and walking on a relaxed leash. This is a good continuation of the Puppy Manners class. Depending on the makeup of the class, structured off-leash play is part of the curriculum.
For dogs over 6 months of age, proof of rabies vaccination or titers must be brought the first day of class. Your puppy must have received his or her second distemper vaccination to participate. Do not bring your dog to the first class — it is for people only.
Basic Manners II Intermediate-Advanced
(Dogs over 5 months old)
This is a continuation of Basic Manners. You continue to work on your dog's socialization and training. Depending on the makeup of the class, structured off-leash play is part of the curriculum and dogs come to the first class! This class includes off-leash training and builds on your dog's skills from previous classes; coming, relaxed-leash walking, and sit and down-stays.
Course prerequisites: Successful completion of Basic Manners or Puppy Manners (with permission).
Tiny Manners
(Dogs under 15 pounds and over 2.5 months old)
Training with a tiny twist. A beginner level class for dogs who weigh 15 pounds or less. Course covers foundational behaviors such as attention, coming when called, sit, down, wait and stay, and walking on a relaxed leash. Depending on the makeup of the class, off-leash socialization and play is part of the curriculum.
For dogs over 6 months of age, proof of rabies vaccination or titers must be brought the first day of class. Your puppy must have received his or her second distemper vaccination to participate. Do not bring your dog to the first class — it is for people only. Please note: Occasionally, medium to large sized shy dogs, who feel more comfortable around smaller dogs, may participate in the class.
