Individual Behavior Case Support for Animal Shelters & Rescues
If a dog or cat in your care presents a behavior problem — one that affects placement, welfare, or staff and animal safety — professional individualized behavior and training support can make the difference between a successful outcome and a difficult decision. Alana Stevenson provides one-on-one behavior support for animal shelter and rescue staff, volunteers, and veterinary care teams who need behavioral help working with specific dogs and cats. This includes dogs and cats who exhibit behavior issues such as fear of people, aggression toward people, reactivity to other animals, touch and handling sensitivities, as well as problem urination in cats, dogs with food and/or resource guarding, leash reactivity, excessive pulling, jumping, mouthing, leash-grabbing, and kennel aggression.
Alana Stevenson has over 20 years of professional dog behavior, cat behavior, and dog training experience using solely humane, science-based methods. She holds Elite Fear Free and Low-Stress Handling certifications — reflecting her commitment to reducing fear, anxiety, and stress in animals during handling.
In-Person & Virtual Behavior Case Support
In-Person Behavior Case Evaluations
On-site behavior evaluations are available for animal shelters and rescues within traveling distance. Alana will directly observe and evaluate the dog or cat, create a behavior modification plan, and work with staff, volunteers, shelter managers, dog trainers, animal control officers, and rescue coordinators to demonstrate training and handling techniques.
On-site training support includes counter-conditioning coaching, leash handling and positioning techniques, body language demonstration and recognition, and adoption recommendations including home type and adopter profile where applicable.
Virtual Behavior Case Assessments
Whether your animal shelter, rescue, or veterinary care team is in the rural US, a city with limited access to qualified humane behaviorists or dog trainers, or in another country or time zone, you will receive the same one-on-one professional expertise as in-person behavior support. Dog and cat behavior case support is provided through video calls and includes live discussion and viewing of video footage when available. Written summaries and behavioral recommendations can be translated upon request.

Veterinary Disclaimer
Alana’s dog and cat behavior case support addresses behavioral and training needs — it is not a replacement for veterinary medical assessment. If medical intervention, pharmaceutical support, or veterinary referral may be beneficial, Alana will advise accordingly.
Liability Disclaimer
Animal behavior is multifaceted. Because dogs and cats in these situations already present with behavioral challenges, and implementation of recommendations cannot always be directly supervised or outcomes guaranteed, Alana Stevenson cannot be held liable for injuries or incidents during or following a consultation.
